An organiser of an e-sports event for rangatahi says he wants to normalise te reo Māori in the digital space.
Digital Natives Academy is hosting Mātauranga Wero Hanga, a Minecraft speed build event involving 10 kura around Rotorua
Ngatarawahi Fairhall says while the use of reo Māori in the tech space is relatively new, even the use of simple words is helping young kids get their heads around the language.
“The digital space is for the future and it’s for now as well so why not put our te reo inside something that’s present and something that will take us to the future. it hasn’t bee a challenge, it’s been inspirational for our tamariki to see te reo Maori while exploring the digital space,” he says.
Mātauranga Wero Hanga will be streamed live on Twitch from December 1.
