The LEGO CON 2022 fan poll to find a future Minecraft minifigure has come to a close, confirming what’s likely to be the theme’s first 2023 character.
In what’s seemingly becoming an annual tradition, this year’s LEGO CON gave Minecraft fans the chance to vote for a new minifigure from three different options (just as happened in 2021). Those were a Crystal Knight, Classic Knight and Prismarine Knight, and because the poll was held publicly on Twitter, we now know which of the three came out on top.
With a comprehensive 57.5% of the 8,557 votes cast, the Crystal Knight is the conclusive winner of this year’s LEGO Minecraft minifigure poll, and will now appear in a future set. There’s no confirmation yet on when exactly that will happen, but the winning minifigure in 2021’s poll – the Ninja – materialised in January’s 21183 The Training Grounds.
Based on that timeline, it’s fairly safe to expect the Crystal Knight will pop up sometime next year, and potentially as early as the winter wave.
On one hand, it’s a fairly surprising winner: the Classic Knight resembles a Minecraft version of the soldiers returning in this summer’s 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle, and given the hype around the LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary (and both that set and 10497 Galaxy Explorer), that minifigure could have reasonably been expected to sweep the poll.
On the other hand, the Venn diagram of Minecraft and Classic Castle fans is probably just two separate circles, given how wildly different the demographics for those themes are in scope and age, so it’s not entirely extraordinary that the Classic Knight only scraped 24.1% of the votes. Trailing in third place is the Prismarine Knight, with the teal minifigure amassing an 18.4% share of the final tally.
LEGO CON is already confirmed to be returning in 2023, presumably with another Minecraft minifigure poll in tow. For now, keep your eyes peeled for the Crystal Knight in a set somewhere down the line.
