LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water’s sets have plenty of new pieces, but the functional bow brick needs to find its way into other themes.
Due on January 1, 2023, 75577 Mako Submarine includes two new bricks that make up a functional bow and arrow, building on the current combined and static piece for the weaponry and ammunition.
This could bring an all-new level of play to LEGO minifigures but bows are used in more themes than just Avatar, offering multiple ways to get this piece into your hands next year. Here are five themes that we think are perfect for this bow and arrow element.
5 – NINJAGO
While we don’t know exactly what the future holds for LEGO NINJAGO post-Crystalized, if the core cast remains a part of the theme then Zane could benefit from this fresh bow brick. The piece could offer a way for us to interact and play using Zane like never before. In 75577 Mako Submarine, the arrow is a transparent blue, which could be passed off as an ice arrow within NINJAGO too.
4 – DC / Marvel
While LEGO DC has been quiet over the past year, should the LEGO Group be inspired by DC Comics in the future, Green Arrow could be another way to expand this new element’s reach since the hero is well known for using the classic weapon, as evidenced by his name. Much like the bow-and-arrow-wielding DC hero, Marvel’s Hawkeye is another character that would benefit from the functional bow and arrow. With LEGO Marvel currently following the trend of the MCU, it may be more likely for Hawkeye to appear in the theme before Green Arrow in DC too.
3 – Star Wars
The functional crossbow piece has found plenty of use within LEGO Star Wars and The Bad Batch could open the door for the new brick too. Omega in the series uses a bow-like weapon that fires energy at enemies. With a bit of imagination and gold colouring, it should fit with the 2023 bow piece fine and the transparent arrow would only need a purple recolour too.
2 – Friends
With LEGO Friends’ relaunch in 2023, the new cast could revisit some of the theme’s earlier concepts including the Adventure Camp. As part of the 2016 range, 41120 Adventure Camp Archery included the functional crossbow element and another LEGO Friends model featuring the new friends could offer a similar experience but with the crossbow swapped for the new bow.
1 – Minecraft
LEGO Minecraft may be more difficult to integrate the new functional bow element into than other themes thanks to its unique design. Currently, LEGO Minecraft has a specialised bow brick to match the look of the item in the game, though it is static. Mixing this bow with the 2023 piece could offer some variety within the theme and allow for more interactivity too. However, the designs may clash at first.
