With Halloween creeping its way around a shadowy corner, here’s our list of 10 of the spookiest LEGO minifigures released to date.
With the season of the witch almost upon us, we’re casting a bloodshot eye over past LEGO sets to reveal which minifigures are truly the scariest. Many models have been released over the years that have included spooky characters, all of which have been crafted with a touch of the LEGO Group’s terrifying tongue-in-cheek sense of humour.
With so many ghoulish minifigure faces to choose from, it’s certainly been a challenge to select just 10 to include in this shocking showcase. As the hallowed hour draws ever closer, here then is our list of some of the spookiest LEGO Halloween minifigures to ever shuffle onto this mortal coil. Read on… if you dare!
10 – Skeleton
First appearing in Pirates and Castle sets in 1995, the standard Skeleton figure design has remained pretty much unchanged for decades. Variants of the clattering skull and bones character have also popped up in multiple themes over the years such as The LEGO Movie, Indiana Jones, Minecraft and Harry Potter.
9 – Wolf Guy
The first entry on this list from LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71010 Series 14, Wolf Guy delivers exactly what you want from a leering lycanthrope. Tattered clothes, huge fangs and tiny claws on the character’s feet are all great details. Other werewolf minifigures have appeared in Monster Fighters, VIDIYO and Studios sets.
8 – Headless Horseman
Although primarily aimed at younger fans, LEGO Scooby-Doo! sets have included some seriously scary minifigures, such as the Headless Horseman who popped up to spook the gang in 75901 Mystery Plane Adventures. A similar pumpkin-headed character has recently been added to the current selection of in-store options for making your own minifigures
7 – Fly Monster
The second LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71010 Series 14 character we’ve included here is this gross ghoul. Part man, part fly, part who-knows-what, the character boasts big red bug eyes, one clawed hand and semi-transparent wings. Based on similar monsters appearing in classic horror films of the 1950s, this is one guy you don’t want to find floating in your soup.
6 – Zombie
The LEGO Scooby-Doo! theme keeps serving up terrifying treats, with this gruesome Zombie minifigure included in 75902 The Mystery Machine. Variants of the undead horror have also risen in other themes over the years such as Minecraft, Monster Fighters, Pirates of the Caribbean and even, yes, Star Wars.
5 – Ghost
As with skeletons, Ghost minifigures have been haunting LEGO sets for decades. The first such spectre appeared in 1990, released in various Castle models. We’ve chosen this particular minifigure from the Monster Fighter build, 9467 The Ghost Train, thanks to its unique pointy top shroud and that fact that (like the original spook) it also glows in the dark.
4 – Swamp Creature
At first glance this maniacal monster may appear to some sort of hideous apparition from the deep, but it’s just old Mr. Brown up to his usual tricks. The colourful Swamp Creature was included as one of four minifigures in 75903 Haunted Lighthouse, a frightening 437-piece LEGO Scooby-Doo! set that was released back in 2015.
3 – Monster
9466 The Crazy Scientist & His Monster debuted in 2012 as part of the LEGO Monster Fighters theme. The set came with minifigures of a Crazy Scientist and His Monster, a Frankenstein creature in all but name. A slightly less spooky version of the undead creation was also included in the LEGO Studios model, 1382 Scary Laboratory.
2 – Wacky Witch
The third and final entry from LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71010 Series 14 is this devilish diva herself. Multiple witch minifigure variants have materialised over the years, appearing in a wide range of themes such as LEGO Dimensions, Castle and Minecraft, plus as a recent addition to the current LEGO Store Build a Minifigure options.
1 – Lord Vampyre
Hitting the top spot is the master of macabre minifigures, Lord Vampyre. The garlic-fearing character was included with 9464 The Vampyre Hearse in 2012, as well as in three other LEGO Monster Fighters sets. There’s just something suitably sinister about this minifigure, which is exactly as it should be for this frightening fiend.
In addition to the scary sets of yesteryear listed above, there are plenty of LEGO Halloween-themed models currently available. These include 21189 The Skeleton Dungeon, 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1, 71399 Luigi’s Mansion Entryway Expansion Set and many others.
